A new voice for the historic Publifoto archive; a keen eye turned to the present and to the social, environmental and ethical challenges it poses to us.
Gallerie d'Italia, with its new headquarters in Turin, redefines the idea of a museum dedicated to photography. The underground architecture, the work of Studio De Lucchi, created from the ancient vault of Banca Intesa San Paolo in Piazza San Carlo, was designed to give a new voice to the historic Publifoto archive and to host photographic exhibitions commissioned ad hoc to great contemporary authors; a keen eye turned to the present and to the social, environmental and ethical challenges it poses to us. In this context, Limiteazero has designed and implemented a series of interactive and multimedia interventions that find space inside the museum, also dealing with the design of the dedicated app.

Entrance
The interventions involved different areas of the museum, performing heterogeneous functions: at the entrance, visitors are greeted by a custom-made digital signage system that provides information on exhibitions and events in Turin and other venues. Still in the same hall, on a large ledwall, a realtime contribution: the Digital Accumulator creates mosaics of iconic photos using images taken from the network as tiles. Alternatively, you can view matrices of photographs extracted from the Publifoto Archive organized by keywords; the schedule that is created can be modified as desired according to the museum's communication needs. Continuing up the floor, you come to a small projection room, in which, when not used for screenings, you can view a three-dimensional map that dynamically shows the visit routes and is automatically updated as the exhibitions change.

Immersive projections
Going down to the second underground floor, you access the large Immersive Projections space: through an integrated system of 18 projectors, and as many sound speakers, the room is transformed into a single seamless multimedia environment. For this intervention we have made two contributions: one shows some of the most beautiful shots in the archive, and acts as a placeholder for the installation when it is not used by site-specific works; the other is an emotional video specially designed for the inauguration.

Live archive
In the room adjacent to the large space where the Publifoto archive is stored and digitized, another major intervention is located: an impressive videowall from which it is possible to view the photos that are entered into the database, and in which, through the installation, you can search immediately and intuitively. It is also possible to interact with the installation through the app: by placing the smartphone on one of the special columns, you can thus save and keep your favorite photos.

Piano Nobile
On the main floor, among the rooms that preserve the original eighteenth-century environments, we have made a contribution thanks to a three-dimensional scan of the Turinetti Room: this is displayed as a cloud of points, with typically cinematic camera movements, a sort of squared space poised between baroque and digital.
