When Codice Edizioni entrusted us with the design and creative direction of the visual identity system of its editorial series, we immediately succumbed to the seduction of the very etymology of the word code and its aesthetic and conceptual implications; a sort of enigmatic game of linguistic coincidences and conceptual correspondence that naturally led us to adopt a computational model of graphic representation. We therefore started from a series of geometric models and translated this approach into a visual poetics made up of slight variations and parametric constructions that use color as an element of emphasis and characterization of the individual book object. Each pattern on each cover therefore represents only one of the possible mutations and forms that the basic algorithm can take, thus assigning a specific identity to each book, a character of uniqueness to each individual element that is, however, part of a series with which it shares a single genetic heritage. This editorial proposal represents the experimental attempt to identify a point of convergence between the computational work model, characterized by its rigid and rigorous numerical order, and the formal and methodological values of traditional editorial graphics, trying to combine different languages in a single and renewed aesthetic idiom.
