This project started on January 2000, when we were entrusted by GAS art system with the design of both the GAS corporate identity and a multimedia system that would, as the GAS manager said, “replace the manager of an art gallery in explaining the exhibition to the visitors.” He also said he wished to be able to give people more information about the artists and their works than is usually supplied by the labels next to each piece.

After evaluating several options, we came up with the idea of a handled computer system, both because of its versatility and its relatively low cost. This device is able to manage texts and ../images as well as sound and video contributions. The wireless card also enabled us to connect the device to both a local network and the Internet, thus creating a server-client relation system that allows the user to download the contributions from the network.

As for the client side, we conceived an application that shows the user the interface to navigate throughout the content, which can be downloaded by simply clicking the correspondent button.

Therefore, the Exhibition handled device is a wireless integrated communication system conceived for art exhibitions and museums. Its main goal is to allow visitors to get more information about the subject of the exhibition as they are visiting it.

This device is integrated with different media, in order to get an information management system that can be enjoyed in different ways. Along with the manager of GAS art system we decided to develop the brand on the Internet as well, looking for the best possible way to communicate the many activities undertaken by GAS. As a matter of fact, GAS not only runs an art gallery in Turin, but it has also started up several art-related businesses, and it is going to come up with further initiatives in the near future.

To accomplish the development of the brand on the Internet, we decided to structure a web site tree that starts from the main domain of the brand: www.gasart.it
From here, users can find all the information about how the system works and then explore the links of the chosen selection, according to their own personal interests. This way, everything following the main page is treated as a second level domain that always indicates the brand it belongs to.
